History Repeats Itself

Amanda, Avery and Patrick
So, it seems only fitting that I revive this blog today since it was three years ago to the day that I posted my first entry. Oh who am I kidding? I had actually forgotten about this blog until today when my daughter Amanda posted one of those Timehop posts on her wall about this blog and there is nothing like Facebook shame to prompt a person to get off their butt and do something. So here I am.
Funnily enough though, here we are, three years later and Amanda is one month away from giving birth to her second child, a little boy who has already been named Lincoln Russell. And just like last time, I'll be making a trip to Georgia to be there for his birth. Who says that history doesn't repeat itself?
Little Miss W
In the past three years I've also added another grandchild to my Nana portfolio. This time, it's a granddaughter, thoughtfully provided by my son Jason and his wife Sarah. Little Miss W (as she's known) is 19 months old and a little firecracker full of boundless energy. Since they were living in Napa, Calif. during her early days, I had the opportunity to make frequent trips down there to visit, which was wonderful. Even more wonderful though, is the fact Jason recently got a new job in Boise and they made the move from Cali to Idaho in July. The Nana gods were smiling on me for that one because now I can see Little Miss W whenever I want to and all it takes is a 45-minute drive down the Interstate. So stay tuned for more adventures with Whitty Boo Boo. Yikes, that sounds a little too much like "Honey Boo Boo." I might have to rethink that term of endearment.
Back in Georgia, Amanda is anxiously counting down the days to Lincoln's arrival. This time, though, there will be no mystery about when he's arriving (unless he decides to come early) because Amanda will be having a scheduled Cesarean, hopefully strategically scheduled so that I can spend some quality time alone with Avery before he steps into his new role as a big brother. From what Amanda tells me, Avery is excited about Lincoln and can't wait for him to get here, but at three years old, I don't know if he fully understands the big picture about how things will change when there's a new baby in the house.
